Culinary experiences in Portrush

The "Ramore Restaurants" in Portrush, Northern Ireland, are an impressive ensemble of several dining establishments that stretch along the picturesque coast of the town by the harbor. Since their inception nearly 30 years ago, this family-run business has evolved into a culinary landmark of the region, renowned for its diversity and quality. With a total of six restaurants and two bars – including the Ramore Wine Bar, The Mermaid, Neptune & Prawn, Coast, Harbour Bistro, and Harbour Bar – the complex offers a wide range of taste experiences that attract both locals and tourists. Each restaurant has its own character and style, making the visit a varied experience.

Restaurants with fresh fish

Culinarily, the "Ramore Restaurants" cater to a variety of preferences. The Ramore Wine Bar features the Wine Bar Burger, a juicy burger with chili chicken, bacon, and cheese, celebrated for its spicy flavor and perfectly crispy fries. The Mermaid offers fine dining with an emphasis on fresh fish – the signature dish, Mermaid’s Catch, combines freshly caught fish with local specialties and is often praised for its freshness and presentation. At Neptune & Prawn, the Thai Green Curry impresses with its aromatic spiciness and the option to share the dish with friends, while the upstairs cocktail area overlooking the sunset is a highlight. Coast entices with Italian classics like the handmade Stone-Baked Pizza, whose thin, crispy crust and fresh ingredients leave a lasting impression. The Harbour Bistro shines with wood-grilled steaks, such as the ribeye from JD Hart & Sons, served with a creamy pepper sauce and appreciated for its intense flavor. The desserts are another hallmark of the complex – the Sticky Toffee Pudding from the Wine Bar's famous dessert station is a sweet dream, delighting with its warm, sticky consistency.

The ambiance varies by restaurant but remains consistently inviting and characterful. The Ramore Wine Bar combines modern, innovative design with a lively atmosphere, further enhanced by the open dessert station. The Mermaid offers an elegant, relaxed setting with spectacular views of Portrush Bay, perfect for special occasions. Neptune & Prawn features a casual, Asian-inspired flair and a trendy cocktail area, while Coast exudes a family-friendly, laid-back vibe with Italian charm. The Harbour Bistro radiates rustic charm, with wood-fired grills and a cozy interior reminiscent of a classic bistro. Conversely, the Harbour Bar serves as the traditional pub anchor of the complex, with a down-to-earth atmosphere, live music, and a focus on socializing.

Family-friendly restaurants in Portrush

Service is a central component of the experience, although it can vary depending on the crowd. The staff is often described as friendly and efficient, especially in the Wine Bar and Harbour Bistro, where service remains attentive even when the place is packed. However, during peak times, there may be wait times, as some restaurants – like the Wine Bar – do not accept reservations for smaller groups, requiring a degree of patience. The flexibility of the complex is reflected in the variety of offerings: from takeaway options at Coast to fine dining experiences at The Mermaid, there’s something for everyone. The drink selection is equally impressive, featuring craft beers, creative cocktails like Neptune’s Sunset, and an extensive wine list that perfectly complements the meals.

Unfortunately I cannot review the atmosphere or food as I requested a table for two at the British open week in July, but as we’re only a small number of two, our money isn’t good enough. Trying to grab as much as possible. Greed is an awful quality to have We were looking to have a nice meal out during the open week and this completely unreasonable response has already but a dampener upon that

Visited as part of a large party. We were well looked after by Jason who walked us to the gin bar down the street afterwards. He was very attentive and made the whole visit very enjoyable. Food was great too!

We are on a sunday evening. No one there, music shit. Food was good but very small portions and no table service. Expensive. Don’t recommend.

This restaurant is so far gone from what it used to be - good local restaurants, with good local people, and reasonable prices. The fact they think it’s ok to profiteer from their best dish (which it’s mediocre at best now) by charging £19.95 for a mass-produced pasta dish, which couldn’t cost more than 50p per bowl to make, is just wild. Significantly smaller portions along with the price increase. When charging those sort of prices you would expect 5 star food and service, but you can’t even achieve a 5 star hygiene rating so what gives you the right to rip off the public? Then to my absolute disbelief, watched a fella in 2024, one-pour a pint of Guinness near broke my heart, but because I was in the Christmas spirit I said nothing…to then find out the glass wasn’t cleaned properly, and the pint tasted like dish cleaner.

It was OK but being more expensive then the shack on seafront who offer table service was abit surprised that this place you had to go to bar to order food and drinks just think if you don't offer this then you need to be cheaper then your competitors
